Twilight The Movie - Saw It Twice Loved It

TWILIGHT BOX OFFICE SUCKS UP $70.5 MILLION NEW MOON SEQUEL CONFIRMED

Carla my friend and neighbor had a Premiere Party at her house on Friday night. It was very festive. She had all sort of Twilight themed food and decor, ladies even wore custom Twilight apparel, and after the Happy Hour Party, 40 women - all ages - went to the 10:30 showing of Twilight. I had just started reading the book with my 10 year old daughter, who was really wanting to see this movie, as do all her "tweens" friends. I didn't know what to expect, but the movie is amazing. It certainly keeps ya on the edge of your seat. At the end I realize that I had been sitting all tensed up for most of the movie, and at the end, I was like - breathe!

It was so good I actually took daughter back Saturday afternoon so she could see it. She was totally entranced for the whole movie, and hardly even spoke - a great feat for her. She "loved it, loved it, loved it!" A group of 10 year olds met yesterday for the beginnings of their bookclub, and they are reading Twilight. The book is 400 pages, and I don't know if she'll get through all of it, but she's giving it a go.

So these two four-to-go members give this a * * * * * rating!

A New Cocker Has Been Good For Our Family

I read today in Yahoo health news that there are 5 ways pets can improve our health. There are 5 ways which is also supported by WebMD. For many years long back, we had our other Cocker Spaniel until she died at 14 1/2 years old, then we just did not care to have one again. The pain of separation was felt. I did not want another dog, because they are so much responsibility. Responsibility I did not want, and felt our 10 year old daughter was not ready for. After much pleading and negotiations, we did get a new Cocker Spaniel in the Spring. There are definitely days (when he still pees in the floor), when I'd gladly re-home him, but I must say my walking routine is more frequent since he came.

Reading the news today gave me the assurance that it is not really wrong to have hairy pets. Here are 5 reasons why we should let our pets stay:

  1. Prevent allergies: Many new studies show that children who grow up in a household with furry animals or on a farm, have less risk for allergies, and asthma and a stronger immune system.
  2. Friend magnets: Pets are natural conversation starters so your pet can help you meet people if you have social anxiety or chronic shyness.
  3. Benefit the aged: For the elderly, caring for a pet can offer exercise and companionship. Studies have also shown that for Alzheimer’s patients, those who have a pet have fewer anxious outbursts.
  4. Good for the mind and soul: Those who have pets are less likely to suffer from depression, are better equipped to handle stressful situations, and they also have lower blood pressure.
  5. Good for your heart: Pet owners who suffer from a heart attack will live longer than those who are petless. Studies have also shown that men who own pets have lower cholesterol.

I now conclude that Freckes is good for our Four-to-go Family. He makes us walk - even when it's cold, he makes us laugh with his antics, he makes us communicate with him and each other more - even if it's just "did you pee Freckles?", and he makes us be more tolerant (I think!)

Neutering Cocker Patient At Home - Day 2 Freckles

Wow - animals are sure resilient. I expected to pick up neutered Freckles and have him all limp and laid out. Not a chance. We've been home a couple of hours, and he has yet to lay down and rest. He's doing great with the e-collar and learning to negotiate through doors, chairs, and the eating and drinking process. He has managed to play with all his toys, just as he does every morning.

He was given a pain med at the hospital before he was released, and sure doesn't seem to be in any pain. Unfortunately, he feels too good. He's wanting to jump too much, and won't settle down. I'm giving him 1/2 pill to calm him down. Thank you vet for giving me those.

Well he slept about 15 minutes - whoo whoo. I've sat by him all day and read my book, because that is when he is the calmest. By end of day we are all four worn out. A whole sedative at bedtime, should help with his rest. Cocker Spaniels are sure not whimps!

All in all he has like four stitches up the base of his penis, that look sturdy and clean.

Cocker Boy Freckles Goes For Neutering

Our fourth and newesest - to go.blogspot, com Cocker Boy finally had the "boys" big surgery today. He is 8 months old already, and starting to "mark" too much outside and inside wherever he wants to. Not good. And, while I thought his aggression would mellow with age, it has not.

I read many articles on the internet about neutering cockers, and I found that 8-9 months is preferred by most vets to allow for maximum growth, and that neutering tended to help with marking and aggression.

All that said Frecks was dropped off at Town and Country Animal Hospital this morning, and because he also goes to Doggie Daycare there once a week, he thought he was going for camp - poor boy. The vet tech called about Noon to tell me the surgery was done, and that he was doing well. We'll pick him up in the morning and will blog tomorrow about post surgery tips, hints, and strategies.

Macy's Department Store - Town Center Mall, Boca Raton

Last week when husband was attending his conference, and me and daughter just tagged along for the ride, we decided to do our favorite mom-daughter thing, and do what? Go shopping of course. Town Center Mall in Boca Raton is one of the nicest malls I've shopped in. Macy's, Saks, Nordstrom, Hudson Belk, Sears were the store anchors.

The sales staff in Macy's were some of the nicest, knowledgeable retail staff. One lady in the perfume department patiently spent so much time showing daughter the new six - to- tweens fragrances in a collection from HaruJuku. The bottle lids are adorable Japanese figurines each one designed for the perfume they represent. This is sure to be a hot selling item for Christmas.

Also, I am the shoe lover of the world, and I've been searching for a pair of gladiator style sandals. I found the most beautiful pair there in a magenta color, and a 5 inch heel. I love those shoes.
Town Center Mall also had such cool boutique type stores, all upscale, with different stuff than I can get in North Carolina. So if you get to Boca Raton this mall is on Glades Avenue.

Four to go - next adventure ROAD TRIP for Thanksgiving.

President Elect Obama - The First Black Commander in Chief

That's what the posts said on Wednesday after the election. I do hope the news, press, radio, will not define Obama as the "first black/African American President" throughout his whole presidency. He is so much more than that. The media never refers to John McCain or Joe Biden as white/Americans. President Obama's whiteness is never spoken of as such. He is correctly white/Caucasian and black/African American equally. But that correctness would not serve the media in their pandering to particular groups.

I believe everyone who lives in the United States should be defined as Americans period. The divisiveness in this country is clear, and it has grown significantly as the external media folks have attached the color code/ethnicity tag with a hyphenated American that separates us into color/ethnic boxes.

We used to just all be Americans, and the spirit of the country was truly United States. While it's important to relate to one's cultural heritage, the U.S. is now such a wonderful mix of people, but people usually just refer to themselves as citizens of the country they live in. I don't hear much about Hispanic/Americans or French/Americans or Indian/Americans, Jewish/Americans, so for our new Commander, remove the color tag, or refer politically correctly as white/black American. Or perhaps just President Elect Obama.

The 2008 Presidential Marathon Election

Never in all my years have I seen an Election as intense as the 2008 year. It is more of a marathon than an election The advertisements bombard us on every television and radio station. How on earth will the media fill all that hole in their revenue stream. In just a very short 48 hours we will have a new president. Somehow I wish I could have a supercollider merge both candidates and have the best of each in one somehow super president.

Joe Biden has predicted that Obama will be tested in his first quarter in office. John McCain touts his experience would protect him from a similar test. That probably is not true. We have as many enemies as friends in this wonderful place we call a world, and the US power in the world has declined and the hatred for Americans has increased. I believe whoever gets the Presidential nod, will be tested, just to see how that President is going to stand. McCain has never run a country either, and VietNam was a long time ago, a different time, different America, different set of allies.

What people seem to forget, as water fountain and neighborhood chats bring up the trite phrases from this election, socialist, racist, age, taxes, universal healthcare, reform, change, is that no one President acts alone in making policy. John McCain nor Barack Obama can do one thing on his own. But, thankfully, we do have that checks and balances system in place. We as citizens of America should be just as careful who we vote to fill those checks and balances Congressional seats. And, just in case you haven't taken good notice, those folks act on their own now, and the will of the voters does not matter. We saw this in that great Economic Bailout Package deal.
